Elected officials notice when residents show up. Even if you don't speak, your presence in the room during public comment signals that this issue matters to the community.
Tips for Public Comment
- Sign up early. Arrive before the meeting starts and sign the public comment sheet. Slots fill up.
- Keep it brief. You'll typically have 3 minutes. Make one or two clear points. Don't try to cover everything.
- Be specific. Personal stories land harder than general arguments. "My child can't nap on Tuesdays because of the crew on Maple Street" is more memorable than statistics.
- Be respectful but direct. Thank the board for their time, then say what you came to say. Ask for a specific action: introduce a full year-round ban.
- Bring a neighbor. Numbers matter. If five residents show up about the same issue, it's on the radar. If twenty show up, it's on the agenda.
Meeting Agendas & Minutes
Agendas and minutes from past board meetings are available on the Village of Croton-on-Hudson website. Check before each meeting to see if leaf blower legislation is on the agenda.
